Magic Number 2002

Game description

Magic Number is a one-of-a-kind addictive game that will keep you awake on those long sleepless nights. This remake of my original 1999 nostalgic masterpiece features the never-tired Random Joe, Binary Jack and Risky Bob. Again, you must choose an avatar to battle these terrific foes in the endless battle of revealing the magic number. To prevail, you must understand the twisted minds of your crazy opponents and then thwart their next moves!

Goals

The secret goals behind Magic Number was to build my own portable C++ graphic API, based upon polymorphism as in the Java AWT/Swing toolkits. This simple graphic API includes basic widgets, mouse events and keyboard events. It was successfuly compiled on both Linux and Win32.

Dependencies

This graphic API must have a low-level graphic API attached to it. Currently, this release is built upon OpenGL. Also, I have chosen the Portable Network Graphic (png) format for the pictures because it's the only format I've found that supported RGBA like I like. Therefore, this release is dependant on the following libraries:

Bugs & Thoughts

Unfortunatly, due to the optimist design, this game requires lots of graphic memory. Yes, I preloaded everything at the start... but think how smooth the game runs! Ha ha... ok, I agree it kinda sucks. If you don't have enough memory, some or all pictures won't show. If this happens, try a lower color-depth.

Credits

The game was designed and coded by myself, David Lareau. Also, the characters were designed and drawn by me. The cool picture of me was took by my brother Jean-Jacques Lareau with my camera and later edited by myself.
